Hic enim ipse duo loca situ sparata commemorat, quorum alteri nomen Aenan, alteri Aenon: habet autem id ab Eusebio, cuius verba de locor. nom. in S. Seript. hanc sunt, Αἰῃαν`, ἥ ἐςτιν εν παρόδῳ Θαμνᾶ, ἔρημος νυν̑ τόπος ἐςτὶν ἡ Αἰναν` παρακείμενος τῆ Θαμνᾶ εἰς δεῦρο οἰκουμὲνῃ μεγίςτῃ πόλει, κειμὲνῃ μεταξὺ Αἰλίας καὶ Διοςπόλεως. πηγὴ δέ ἐςτιν εν τῷ Αἰναν λεγομὲνω τόπῳ, παῤ ᾗεἰίδωλον ἦν παρὰ τῶ ἐγχωρίων τιμώμενον.. Aenan, desertus nunc locus est, propinquus Thammae, ctiamnum habitatae inbenti urbi, inter Aeliam et Diospolim. Fons autem est, in eo loco apud quem idolum fuit, incolis in veneratione. Henaiim verterunt Αἰναν; Hebraei vero, ut Hieronym. monet, non pro loci nomine accipiunt, sed bivium interpretantur: proprie est τὼ ὀφθαλμὼ; τὰκρήνα, duo oculi vel duo fontes. De Aenon vero idem Eusebius ita: Αἰνων` ἐγγύς τȏυ Σαλεὶμ, ἔνθα ἐβάπτιζεν ὁ Ι᾿ωάννης ------- καὶ δείκνυται ἐισέτι νυν̑ ὁ τόπος ἀπὸ ή. μιλίων Σκυθοπόλεως, πρὸς ῃότον πλησίον Σαλεὶμ καὶ τȏυ Ι᾿ορδάνου, Aenon prope Salem, ubi baptizabat Iohannes ------ et ostenditur etiamnum locus, 8. milliar. Scythopoli, Meridiem vesus, prope Salem et Iordanem. Sic ergo Aenan fuit prope Diospolin sive Lyddam ab ea parte Iordanis, quae mare respicit: Aenon vero vicina Scythopoli ad alteram Iordanis ripam sita, non procul a flumine.
